8th Rolleston Transport Festival

Announcement (Summer 2016 Rollestonian Article)

When you read this the Festival will be just a couple of weeks away. Let's hope the weather is kind to us again this year. We have a record number of exhibitors again and we will be using the Scout HQ as an overflow display area. This went down really well last year and it was a very busy area with interesting vehicles.

Tne highlight from last year was the US Army GM lorry in the Club car park that was set up as an ENSA stage (Armed Forces' entertainment for WWII). That will be here again with Gemma and her partner entertaining us with 1940s songs.

Last year a big problem was the number of cars parked throughout the village, especially on Church Road and Station Road, making life very awkward for the buses. We will be trying to address this by hopefully providing extra off-road parking, by coning off parts of Station Road (with the police) and by not having any garage sales on the Service Station forecourt.

This year's star raffle prize is a day trip around the Peak District in a 1929 Model A Ford Phaeton vintage car with Vintage Adventure Tours. This trip, for up to 4, is worth £320 and promises to be a once in a lifetime experience. Steve, the owner and driver, will be bringing the car along to the festival so that you can see it and perhaps have your photograph taken alongside it.

As you might expect, as the Festival gets bigger and better we need more helpers both beforehand and especially on the day. So that we can be better organised we shall have the helpers' meeting sooner than in previous years. We shall meet in Rolleston Club concert room on Tuesday 17th May at eight o'clock. At that meeting we shall brief the helpers and allocate jobs for the day.

If you can help in any way, even just for an hour on the day, then please come along to the Club. Tell your friends to come along. Everyone who helps says what a satisfying experience it is.

Organising Chairman

On The Day

Large crowds turned out to see the vehicles and hopefully find a bargain at the St Mary’s Church Grand Garage Sale. At 4.30pm there was a parade, pictured below.
