Winter 2017 News

As we draw towards the end of 2017, let us start by saying what a wonderful first term of the school year we have all enjoyed. The new intake and all of our returning children have settled so well and it has been a pleasure to share in all their experiences as they listen, play and learn so well together.

During the autumn, we have loved seeing the changing colours and exploring nature first hand in our woods week and the children will be looking forward to all our woodland adventures through the seasons ahead as we visit every term.

The festive frenzy is now in full swing and we have a busy calendar of events as well as learning about celebrations from around the world. Supporting the Advent festival at St Mary’s this year has given us plenty of opportunity to get baking in Pre-School and create lots of festive tasty treats. Following the success of last year, we have a “Christmas Jolly Jingle, Mix and Mingle” event after school on Thursday December 14th. Families are invited to stay and create Christmas crafts together and partake in a mince pie or two. Our party for the children is on December 11th this year with have our favourite performer Jeffery Jumper and, as we’ve been all so good, a very special guest popping in to visit too.

The little (and larger) performers are, by now, also in full rehearsal mode. This year’s Christmas performance, “A king is Born” is our nativity at the Church on Monday 18thDecember. With singing and costumes, prepare to wipe away a tear or two as we share and remember the true message of Christmas.

During this term, we have supported charities: Children in Need with our Pudsey picnic and Operation Christmas Child by creating shoe boxes for children in other countries. Thank you to all our families who give their time, energy and a little bit of money to support us in these ventures as well as joining in with our regular fundraising events for the Pre -School charity itself.

As a charity we greatly rely on our parents and their families to be part of our committee, as without them we could not continue as a pre-school. We are always looking for people to join our committee and helpers for our events. In particular we have a treasurer role that is soon to become vacant, if anyone is interested in helping us out with this voluntary role and has a history of book keeping/accounts please email emmahomecroft@googlemail.com

From all at pre-school we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Autumn 2017 News

The summer term has flown by and luckily we have been blessed with plenty of sunshine to enjoy our packed programme of outdoor activities at Pre-school and beyond. The children especially love exploring our outdoor space enhanced with lots of natural resources. The last focus of the summer was ‘homes’ and we made models, wrote and delivered post, creating a cave and a dinosaur den and of course, the paddling pool made a few appearances too! The reinvented “bear cave” even travelled to the woods in July for one of our regular week long adventures in the school spinney. Here the children enjoy the full freedom of the woodland and embrace the spirit of education outdoors. The culmination of the summer term was our leavers’ trip to the farm at Tatenhill and the family “Fun Day” held at the Cricket Club. We thank our hardworking committee, our parents, and the wider community for their ongoing support.

Our older children will be, by now, settling into their new classes and, after lots of transition visits and preparation, we know they will love their new adventures in learning. We wish them all well.

And so the school cycle starts again. We welcome all our returning children who will now be beginning their Pre-school year. We have 20 new children and we look forward to sharing lots of fun times together.

Our focus for this half term is “ourselves” and the children are encouraged settle in and develop their personal and social skills by creating a shoebox of pictures and bit of pieces about themselves and their world. We love sharing these and the teachers make and share theirs too.
Just as the autumn brings new children and fresh changes in preschool, so we look to welcome new members to join our Preschool committee. We are holding an informal “come and find out about us” event on the 28th Sep 7-9pm.

It’s not just about fundraising and meetings, the committee is a great way to meet likeminded parents and have a lot of fun in the process.

Our first main fundraising event is our annual Halloween disco, at Rolleston club on the 28th Oct.
