Also during the term, we are taking part in the RSPB Big School Bird watch, so don’t be surprised if you see us using our binoculars and cameras from our bird hide (kindergarten) as we search for all of the different birds in Brook Hollows.

We are looking forward to the warmer weather so that we can explore our outdoor surrounds for longer.

We have had a lovely half term, with our visit to the Farm and Orchard at Paget High School, on March 26th, where we saw numerous types of chickens and ducks and a very large turkey.

The story teller was very entertaining, showing us actions to join in with the songs and stories.

We walked to look at the huge variety of fruit trees and their blossom. The children were excited to see the newly hatched quail.

We enjoyed our Easter celebrations where we went over to Brook Hollows to do egg rolling; we made Easter nests, cards and tried egg decorating.

This term’s theme is all about growing. We will be watching eggs hatch and the chicks grow and also waiting for the frog spawn to change and turn into frogs. We are planting a variety of Flowers and Vegetables, not only to make our outside area colourful, but also to learn about how plants grow.

Each of the children will be given a Jubilee commemorative coin; we would like to thank the parish council for this kind gesture.

Spring 2012 News

We have settled back in after the Christmas break, and we are well into the theme for the spring term which is books and our environment. We have been investigating stories, acting them out, talking about different situations that occur and what may happen next. We have also been out and about in the village looking for: the Gruffalo, mouse and Snake over the spinney. Other activities include visiting the Library Van, Elizabeth Avenue Park and feeding the ducks along Brookside.

We are looking forward to our visit to the Farm and Orchard at Paget high School on March 26th where we will learn about eating healthy, and have hands on experience with the poultry, there will also be a storyteller who will tell stories on the theme of fruit.. All this is funded by the Surestart Children’s Centre.

It will not be long before we start out Easter celebrations where, not only do the children learn about the story of Easter, but also egg hunting, egg painting and rolling and many more Easter themed activities.

We were recently inspected by Ofsted and received a grading of Good in all areas; this includes not only the education and welfare of the children, but also the management of the setting and the environment.

Mrs Goodhead, one of the partners is studying for a BA (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies at Staffordshire University along with Early Years Professional Status qualification; this is not only to expand on her vast experience and wealth of knowledge in this area but also to comply with the Government’s recommendation of a Graduate EYP in every setting by 2015. We wish her good luck with her studies.
