Summer 2016 News
(This article is taken from Rollestonian - Summer 2016 issue)

In addition to monthly meetings I thought I would give a taste of other events members were involved in during 2015.

In June The Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent hosted "A Vintage Weekend", committee members manned a stall promoting our club, demonstrating and selling arrangements to boost funds.

Bakewell Show was held at the beginning of August, Sue Sunderland and Evelyn Millington entered a club exhibit in the class "Emporium" they were thrilled to be awarded a second prize. Marilyn Ottewell and Elsie Hood also did well in the classes they entered independently At the end of the month we held a Strawberry Tea with a demonstration by Marilyn. Members baked cakes and worked hard on the day to cater for about 110 people, it was a great afternoon, we raised £810.25 for our charity.

There were gale force winds, heavy rain and huge waves at Blackpool in November for the Flower and Food Festival. A number of members braved the weather and enjoyed a fantastic show. Judy Cripps and Marilyn Ottewell exhibited.

Our own chairman Marilyn gave us a fabulous Christmas demonstration followed by mince pies, stollen and wine, there was lots of chatter and a lovely atmosphere, it was a very enjoyable evening.

This year we celebrate our Emerald (55th) Anniversary so more events are planned!

Spring 2014 News
(This article is taken from Rollestonian - Spring 2014 issue)

In January we welcomed Marilyn Ottewell as new chairman to our small, but dedicated committee. Members and visitors have enjoyed many diverse demonstrations culminating with John Chennell “In Festive Mood”.

On a cold February day we visited Ashwood nurseries for a fascinating tour of the greenhouses where their famous Hellebores are bred. Afterwards the restaurant, with its toasty warm fire was very welcoming. The hellebore I purchased is in my garden, I can see its fat pink buds as I sit at the table writing this report.

To promote National Flower Arranging Day and our club we had a stand outside the Co-op in Stretton. The mini-demonstrations and photographs of club events were popular and resulted in some new visitors.

A Vintage Tea held in Marilyn’s garden on a very hot July afternoon was a great success, raising over £500 for our 2013 charity, St Giles Hospice.

At Chelsea Flower Show Judi Cripps was awarded a Bronze in the class “Diversity” staged with Wendy Freeman (Dover Beck Flower Club) and at Bakewell Show Marilyn Ottewell gained a First, Second and Runner up to Best in Show and Elsie Hood a Second and Fourth, great results!
