Mrs Delia Wyers

Just as this issue of Rollestonian was going to the printers we heard of the untimely death of Mrs Delia Wyers, only one year after she was selected as “Rollestonian of the Year” by the Parish Council. Delia was a tireless worker on behalf of our community for many years. Readers will know her as the correspondent for Rolleston Guides and Brownies, a group whose success has depended much on Delia’s dedication and organising skills. Delia was a keen horticulturalist originally running a small conifer nursery in Outwoods and later opening her garden for St Mary’s “Gardens Sunday”. Another major hobby was family history: she was Secretary to the Burton Family History Society and a leading member of the informal Rolleston History Group. Delia was involved in RoDSEC since its inception in 2000 and latterly its Minutes Secretary. She was also Secretary to the Village Gala and her First Aid qualification was in constant demand for major village events. Until her recent illness Delia led a full life in the locality and leaves large holes to be filled. Our thoughts are with her husband, John and daughter, Oriana, who, like her are strong community supporters. (April 2017)
