Flooding in Rolleston
March 12th 2018

On Monday 12 March persistent, heavy rainfall led the brook and Dove to burst their banks causing a build-up of water in Brookside, Burnside, Station Road, Chapel Lane, Beacon Road and  Craythorne Road amongst others. The environment agency issued a flood warning for Rolleston and surrounding areas. Bus services were suspended and Station Road closed to traffic. Residents described Rolleston as coming to a "complete standstill".

The Burton Mail website provided updates.

The Parish Council was encouraged to consider cancelling the Bellway development meeting planned for that evening as many of the concerned residents would find it difficult, or feel under the circumstances it wiser not, to attend. Others would probably just assume the meeting would be postponed.

A message from the Parish Council chairrman was posted on Facebook: "We recognise the difficulties which many in the village are experiencing due to rising river water levels, water run off from ditches and drains overflowing resulting in flooding. Regarding the presentation and Q&A planned for this evening, We have considered postponing the meeting but decided to go ahead with the meeting as this is likely to be the last chance for public consultation before their submission for detailed planning application."

Jane Bucknall, the Parish Council Clerk, confirmed she would be taking notes on the presentation and the questions which she will publish later in the week and if numbers are low then the Parish Council may ask Bellways to come back another time but this will be down to them.
