Rolleston Cricket Club News 2018

Summer 2018 Newsletter

At the time of writing the start of the 2018 cricket season is only a week away. Unlike last year though the weather in April so far has been pretty awful. If it ever does stop raining the season is due to start on April 21st - but at the moment the chances of that happening at The Willows on that date look rather slim unless there is a sudden heat-wave. Our ground team will certainly need to work overtime to get everything ready.

Despite the weather indoor training at Abbotsholme and Meadowside has been well attended and everyone is looking forward to the new season.

The first team, under new captain Richard Green, will again be in the Derbyshire County Premier League and are hoping to secure the services of a young overseas player from South Africa.

By the time you receive this Rollestonian the season will hopefully be a few games old. All four of our senior League teams now play their home matches at The Willows so there will be two matches for you to watch most Saturdays, and you are welcome to come along. We now have a new electronic score-board for the main ground.

As well as our four senior League teams on Saturdays, we run Sunday and midweek friendly teams.

Our mid-week friendly team, known as ‘The Willowers’ is mostly for non-regular cricketers and they play evening matches throughout the season. If you fancy a game with a more social atmosphere please contact the Club.

Our Junior teams operate at U-11 (Kwik cricket and hard-ball), U-13, U-15 and U-17 levels. Coaching and training details are available on request.

There are several County representative matches scheduled this summer.

In particular two Staffordshire CCC 20/20 matches on Sunday 3rd June. There are also junior Derbyshire Boys and Girls matches throughout the season plus a Derbyshire Women’s fixture on Sunday 10th June.

Derbyshire Men’s over 50s are also at Rolleston on July 11th when they take on their Yorkshire counterparts. We also have a game against an MCC Xl on Thursday 2nd August and Rolleston is also the host venue for the Brewery Cup finals day on Sunday 19th August.

So - plenty to choose from!

A full list of 2018 fixtures is available from the Club on request and visitors are always welcome during the season.

Should you would like to support or sponsor the Cricket Club we still have spaces left on our ‘Buy a Brick’ Sponsors board – for details please contact our Club secretary.

If you are interested in becoming a Club member whether as a player (senior, junior or a ‘Willower’), as a social member, or if you would like more information about the Club, fixtures, social events etc. please contact the Club secretary Steve Cooper (07739 760786) or Michael Acton at the Club (01283 813449). We look forward to seeing you at The Willows
