The Parade

The Service, taken by Rev. Ian Whitehead assisted by Lay Reader Carol Webster, followed a familiar pattern with traditional hymns. The Uniformed Organisations processed into the Church and the Colours were laid up in the Sanctuary. The procession was led into the Church by the Crucifer, Arthur Scattergood. The Lessons were read by members of the Sea Cadets and Air Cadets and Ian's Sermon was based on "wartime sounds". After the singing of the National Anthem, the parade left during the recessional hymn, "Eternal Father, Strong to Save", specially adapted to include all the Armed Forces. The parade was saluted as they left the Church and there was a peal of bells as the parade marched to the Commemoration Hall where the Union Flag was raised on the bowling green. Reveille was sounded by bugler Michael Marrison.
