ECONOMY GUIDELINES

The small industrial and commercial sector has been allowed to contract with losses at Home Farm and Burnside. It would appear that the service industry is the main local employment hope in the future. Due to lack of adequate road infrastructure, control is needed to ensure that industry and commerce is not allowed to develop in undesirable locations

We should try to retain the existing shops as there is little scope for new ones. The visual impact of shop fronts should be considered. Village shops do not need the brightly coloured or illuminated signs of urban shops which are competing with neighbouring businesses.

The dual role of many buildings in the village is important and requires thorough consideration in the event of diminution of a particular use.

Parking problems should be considered, including the visual impact of car parks. An example could be drawn from the Jinnie Inn and the Cricket Club, whose car parks are shielded by hedges.
