Tutbury Flower Club News 2006


The club provides regular articles for the Rollestonian and has members in the village. It therefore seemed appropriate to reproduce them here (and any other news) for those interested in this local club.


Winter 2006 News

Tickets have now gone on sale for Tutbury Flower Club’s Christmas Extravaganza on Friday 8 December at The Village Hall, Monk Street, Tutbury.
This year, the audience will have an opportunity to enjoy displays by two flower arrangers, Kate Russell and Patti Dawson, in their depiction of “A Tudor Christmas”, with authentic costume, music and verse.
Come and enjoy floral delights in the atmosphere of Merrie Olde England! Tickets, £5.00 to include wine and mince pies, are available from The Secretary 813856.

Readers will also be interested to know that the Club raised over £1,000 for The Alzheimer's Society at its charity fundraiser earlier this year, when well-known Area Demonstrator for the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies Marilyn Ottewell, wowed audiences with her demonstration "If You Want to Get Ahead, Get a Hat".

A record attendance ensured the success of the evening as a fundraising event and Marilyn, who is also chairman of the club, said "I would like to thank everyone in the audience who contributed so generously to such a worthwhile cause, as well as those behind the scenes who helped in any way".

Autumn 2006 News

The Flower Club has raised over £1,000 for its chosen charity, The Alzheimer’s Society.

People from a wide area joined members of the Club to watch an evening of flower-arranging by highly-regarded NAFAS Area Demonstrator Marilyn Ottewell, who is also Chairman of the Club. 

A record attendance ensured the success of the evening as a fundraising event and Marilyn says “I would like to thank everyone in the audience, who contributed so generously to such a worthwhile cause, as well as those behind the scenes, who helped in any way”.

The Club’s next Open Evening will be “Tudor Christmas”, a two-hander by Kate Russell and Patti Dawson, to be held in Tutbury Village Hall on Friday 8 December. Tickets, £5.00 to include a glass of wine and a mince pie, are available from the Secretary, 01283 813856.


Summer 2006 News

The club is holding a Charity Evening on Friday 7th July 7:30pm at Tutbury Village Hall. The evening “Summer Spectacular “ includes a demonstration by Marilyn Ottewell, a glass of wine and a choice of homemade summer desserts. All money raised from this event will go to the club’s chosen charity this year which is “Alzheimer’s”. Tickets are £5.00 and available from Janet Stone on 01283 815107 or Jane Howard 01283 813856. Spring 2006 News

The club would like to thank all who supported the charity events held in 2005; £550.00 was donated to “Burton Diabetics Association”. The charity for 2006 is “Burton Alzheimer’s Society” please look out for announcements of future events.

Tutbury Flower Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm, Tutbury Institute, High Street, Tutbury. New members and visitors are always welcome. The club has regular demonstrations, workshops and social events throughout the year. For further details please contact club secretary Jane Howard on 813856.
