Autumn fund raising always begins with a very popular quiz night and this October was no exception. Ian MacDonald took over the role of quiz master with Dave Hancock, a former teacher providing an interesting music round. The quiz was first class entertainment and the bar staff kept everyone well oiled. Classless FM a well-known local team swept the board. There were many more teams of students this year and there was a really happy atmosphere. £370 was raised as a result of a very pleasing evening.

Naturally everyone is working hard for the Christmas Fair in November. The ever popular quiz Books will be on sale again from November to February. Telephone 813414 for a copy of a quiz - £1 - and it will keep you going when spirits flag at Christmas.

The Red Herrings with Ellen and Jonathon Godfrey will be appearing again for another Murder Mystery Evening at de Ferrers Dove Campus on Friday January 25th 2002. They will be acting out a completely different scenario so contact me early to book your table. Refreshments will be as good as last year with filled jacket potatoes and puds, tickets will be £5 cash.

The Fashion Show is on! Yes, Fatale from Tutbury have agreed to host a Fashion show on Friday April 19th 2002 on the Dove Campus. We have tried so hard to arrange this event and now we've done it, so do get the date in your diaries. Now that de Ferrers has become a Specialist Technology college funds are still needed to buy additional equipment to help all students. The committee work so hard to put on events. Please come and support us.

Verity Conner, Chairperson.

This has been another very successful term for the P.S.F.A. The Duck Race was held on a glorious Saturday in May and a crowd gathered to watch the ducks glide down the brook eagerly caught by Michael York, the headmaster and his deputies. £1,200 was raised and a great time was had by all. Our ever popular Quiz was won in July by Richard Bush, Rolleston's own webmaster. He is to be congratulated on scoring 99/100.

Because of the school's successful bid for technology status the £5,000 already collected by the P.S.F.A has now been used to update resourses in the school. Another £3,000 had been collected by the end of the summer term which has gone to provide "extras2 throughout the school.

From September de Ferrers P.S.F.A.will swing into action and any new parents or parents of children already attending the school would be welcome to join the hardworking and committed team of fundraisers. The AGM is on 2nd October at 7.00pm on the Trent Campus. We are particularly sorry to lose this year two long standing members from the committee, Yves epivant and Brenda highway and we wish them well.

Our first Autumn Term event is the Quiz Night on Friday 12th October at 7.30pm on the Dove Campus. A table of four costs £8 with refreshments included and there is a licensed bar. Ian McDonald will be the quizmaster, this year ably supported by Dave Hancock on the music round. Book a table at the school offices or by phoning 813414.

Friday 16th November is a must for everyone who likes a good Christmas Fair. We hope to draw an even bigger crowd this year, so please come at 7.00pm on dove campus.

I would like to thank all the parents and friends who support the P.S.F.A. as the money goes to help all pupils. The committee have been excellent this year, we've made a good team. Thank you.

Verity Conner (Chairman de Ferrers P.S.F.A.)

Summer 2001

PSFA

An inspiring Murder Mystery evening held in February was really enjoyed by all those who attended. Another one has already been arranged for January 25th 2002 so keep this date in your diary if you are interested. The "Red Herrings" will unravel another world of mystery and intrigue with the PSFA providing a welcome supper.

Preparations are well in hand for the Duck Race on May 12th, to be held as usual on Rolleston Brook near the Spread Eagle Bridge. Hopefully there will be a good crowd to see Head teacher Michael York hold up the wining duck.

Unfortunately the Fashion Show planned for March had to be cancelled, but plans are in hand for a bigger and better event in 2002. For the quiz-lovers of Rolleston there is a new quiz book available costing £1. Please telephone 813414 for a copy.

The PSFA works hard to raise money for the school, but also supports school events such as concerts and Parents' evenings, when refreshments are provided. If you are a Parent of a Year 6 pupil soon to attend de Ferrers please come and look for our display at the New Parents' Meeting in July. We look forward to you joining us for the year 2001/2002.

Spring 2001

PSFA

The tremendous response to our Christmas Fair in November meant that over £2,600 was raised for de Ferrers High School pupils. The committee were indebted to all the parents, staff and pupils who worked together to make the evening such a success. Olivia Murphy, England’s Netball Captain and Darren Stride, Burton Albion’s Captain made a great opening team. They toured around all the stalls before helping out with the Auction and drawing the Raffle.

Headmaster, Michael York, was delighted with this best ever total and he hopes to use the significant amount of money raised recently by the PSFA to help with the school’s bid for Technology status.

The Around the World Quiz Book is on sale at the moment with its multi-cultural insert. This is keeping quiz lovers on their toes. Later in the Spring another book quiz will be on sale for £1.

The highspot for the Spring term fund raising is the Murder Mystery evening planned for February. Actors and actresses will lead the assembled parties through “Murder at Murgatroyd Manor” until the murderer is discovered.

De Ferrers PSFA relies on parents, staff and friends to raise money to help all pupils have the additional facilities that money can buy.
