Welcome

What a busy and thrilling year we have had! We are eternally grateful to St Mary's Church and Reverend Ian Whitehead for being so accommodating at the Old Grammar School Room whilst the new build takes place. The children have settled in extremely well along with our new starters, friendships are being made and great comments have been received. A big thankyou to all.

Autumn 2010 News

An exciting start to the new school year

As you will know by now, our Pre School building is being replaced with a new, purpose-built building which offers improved facilities and disabled access for our children, parents and staff. By the time you read this, our existing building should have been demolished and the new one will be taking shape. This is a very exciting time for our Pre School, and the staff have worked tirelessly to organise and move all our resources into storage. We are very pleased that we have a new, albeit temporary, home for September – as of Tuesday 7th we will be using the Old Grammar School Room at St Mary’s Church to house the Pre School while the building works – which should last around 14 weeks - take place. This should offer a workable, local solution to our homelessness, and we are grateful to all involved in making this a possibility.

Ofsted inspection

Rolleston Pre School was inspected by Ofsted earlier in the summer term and was judged to be “good” with “outstanding” features. This very positive report is a real credit to everyone at Pre School, and shows that working together really does have a positive, beneficial impact on the learning environment we can provide for the children in our care. Rolleston Pre School continues to go from strength to strength!

Other news

We have had a very busy term fundraising and getting involved in fun days and local events. At our Sponsored Obstacle Race and Fun Day in June we enjoyed a variety of activities, including painting personalised tiles to use in our new building, and raised money for resources while we all had lots of fun. The day was a great opportunity to say farewell to some of our children, and welcome to others, who will start with us in September. In July, to round off the term, the children leaving Pre School to start ‘big school’ in September enjoyed a trip to Twycross Zoo. The weather was fine – despite the forecasts – and a great day was had by all.

Contacting Pre School and Playgroup/Inbetweenies

Whilst our building is taking shape and we are operating from other premises, we have a new telephone number. If you wish to register your child for Pre School or have any queries, please contact Lolene Poxon, Pre School Manager on 07984 182959. For Playgroup and Inbetweenies, our new liaison officer is Julia Shephard, who can be contacted on 07813 102726.

Summer 2010 News

Great News From Pre School!

Rolleston Pre School has finally received the exciting news that Staffordshire County Council intends to provide funding for a new Pre School building, to be built this summer. This funding is subject to contracts being finalised. However, we’re sure you’ll agree that this is wonderful news for our village.

The funding comes with the condition that Pre School contributes £15,000 towards the building, new furniture and play equipment. Thanks to the efforts of our committee, parents, and the village as a whole, we have done really well. We'd still like to raise £1000-£2000 by September, though, to improve our outdoor play area - so please continue to support our fundraising efforts Rolleston Pre School’s new building will be on the same site as the existing Pre School, and will offer improved facilities and disabled access. We want to improve visibility and movement between the indoor and outdoor play areas to encourage children to choose from activities inside or outside during the session. We are expecting the current building to be demolished at the start of the summer holidays and the build will take around 14 weeks. We hope to run our sessions from other premises within the village while our new home takes shape. Exciting times ahead!

Forthcoming Events

Meanwhile, life at Pre School continues as normal. The children are enjoying the lovely weather and are taking part in The Big Bean Challenge, sponsored by Morrison’s Let’s Grow scheme. The biggest beanstalk on judging day, June 1st, will win a prize, so the children are busy planting and tending.

We are delighted to be welcoming back Kelly’s Heroes to get us dancing on Saturday 19th June – this event was a huge success last year. Why not dig out your dancing shoes and join in the fun this year? Kelly’s Heroes will be playing at John of Rolleston Primary School, Alderbrook site, from 8pm. There is a licensed bar, tickets are £7 and are on sale at Pre School.

Pre School will be supporting both the Rolleston Carnival and Community Transport Day in May – we hope to see you at these events.

Fundraising

Whilst we are thrilled that our discussions with Staffordshire County Council look to have been successful in securing us funding for a new building, we are still a registered charity that receives no government funding, and we rely on our fundraising to keep us ‘afloat’. Please continue to support our fundraising efforts, including the Clothing Bank at the Spread Eagle and the used mobile phone collection point we have in Starbucks. We are also selling donated items on eBay to raise funds. If you have any items that you would like to donate, please drop off small items at Pre School, or contact us if you have larger items to donate.

Many thanks for your continuing support.

If you wish to register your child for Pre School or have any queries, please contact Lolene Poxon, Pre School Manager on 01283 239209.

Spring 2010 News

2010 already?!

Though spring is just around the corner, we’d love to update you on the busy Christmas celebrations Pre-School enjoyed last term.

The children of Pre-School, Toddlers and In-betweenies loved decorating Christmas puddings for display in St Mary’s Church for the 2009 celebration. Hopefully you will have been able to attend this wonderful event to see the beautiful Christmas carol-themed displays the children and other village organisations created.

We also held pre-Christmas events including our Nativity - told entirely through song - which was a great success and very well supported. The children picked up the songs and actions very quickly and sang beautifully. For our ‘Operation Christmas Child’ charity appeal the children helped pack 37 boxes of gifts for less fortunate children which was an amazing achievement.

Sainsburys bag packing raised £267.17 – thank you to all that helped.

By now Pancake Day will have been and gone – we hope you all enjoyed our pancakes, and thank you for your support.

Forthcoming Events

For all those shopaholics amongst you, please join us for a great night on 19th March, 7.30pm at our “SOS Fashion Show”. The show will feature 10 high street labels including Next, Gap, M&S, and Evans, which you can then buy for less than half price! With a licensed bar and fantastic cheap fashion featured by our very own models, it’s going to be a great night.

Our ever-popular Chocolate Bingo will be held on Saturday 27th March, 2-4pm. Chocolate Bingo is great fun for all the family with a variety of children’s bingo games and a few adult games thrown in too. There are always lots of yummy prizes. Please come along and join us. Any donations of chocolate for the bingo prizes would be gratefully received. Tickets for the above events are available from Pre-School.

Fundraising

In addition to all of the fantastic events throughout the year, Rolleston Pre-School are also running a number of fundraising schemes. Rolleston Pre-School is a registered charity and receives no government funding.

We are waiting for confirmation of funding towards a new Pre-school building from Staffordshire County Council and are expecting a response any day. We have recently been awarded a grant to replace our old furniture – great news for our children.

Derby County Tickets

We are thrilled to have Derby County Football Club as an official sponsor of Rolleston Pre-School. DCFC will donate £5 to our Pre-School for every ticket sale made through us. If you want to take advantage of this superb offer, check our website www.rollestonpreschool.co.uk  for available matches or call 01332 821072 and quote “Rolleston”. Alternatively email tickets@dcfc.co.uk.
