Winter 2005 News

Rolleston Pre-School

The new school year has seen many new and familiar faces with children coming up through Toddlers and In-Betweenies and joining our Pre-school for the first time. All our new starters have settled in well and are having lots of fun and are making new friends.

The Pre-school held its AGM in October and although some members of the Committee stepped down due to their children moving on, we were successful in attracting new members who wish to become involved and support the charitable events throughout the school year. Welcome and thanks to you all.

Our fundraising continues with plans being made for the New Year. A diary of events will be publicised soon and events will include Chocolate Bingo and Auction of Promises.

With the festive season approaching, the children have been preparing for Christmas and have designed this year’s Christmas Cards. It is hoped that the sale of these Christmas Cards will help to raise funds for new equipment, and they can be purchased from the Pre-School, Toddlers and Committee Members.

At the end of November, the Pre-School children and the In-Betweenies and Toddlers were invited by the Rev. Ian Whitehead of St. Mary’s Church to decorate Christmas Trees for the Tree Festival. All the children had a magical experience and are already buzzing with the spirit of Christmas.

The Pre-School Nativity Play will be taking place on Friday 16th December at 2pm in the Methodist Chapel, and all parents and carers are invited to come along and support their child in this special and touching event.

The Pre-School Christmas Party will be taking place on 20th December, which will include snacks and party games for the children and a visit from Santa.

If you would like to register your child or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239 209

Rolleston Toddlers

The Toddler Sessions continue to be popular with an increasing number of children joining us. We welcome Tracy Salmon, who joined us in September as our new Tuesday session co-ordinator.

We have also introduced a new Friday morning Toddler session this term to cope with the demand for places.

Toddlers will be joining up with the In-Betweenies this year for their Christmas Party, on Wednesday 14th December at 11:30am at the Scout HQ with Marie Vic Gomez, from Jo Jingles as entertainer. Lunch will also be provided and there will be a visit from Santa. If you would like your child to join in the fun, please contact Louise Arnold on 815440.

Rolleston In-Betweenies

The Thursday morning ‘In-Betweenies’ toddler group for our older Toddlers is still very popular and we are currently taking children who will start mainstream school in September 2007. We have also opened our register for children who start school in September 2008.

The session is more structured and includes various activities, including story-time, messy play, dressing up, cooking, action songs and rhymes.

All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering for either Toddlers or In-Betweenies. To register your child at any of the following sessions, contact Louise Arnold on 01283 815440.

Toddler Sessions Tuesday 10:00am – 11:30am (waiting list)
Thursday 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Friday 10:00am – 11:30am

On behalf of Rolleston Pre-School staff and Committee Members, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Autumn 2005 News

The Summer term was a busy time for all, but most enjoyable with good weather for all events. The Annual Community Day was a great success and our stalls raised more funds for equipment for the Pre-School. Our leavers enjoyed the trip to Ash End House Children’s Farm, and the children thoroughly enjoyed their Fun Day at the end of July, which included a picnic with many activities and a visit from a fire engine.

The Auction of Promises was very successful and raised £2,500 for new playground equipment. Many thanks to all those who supported the event, with special thanks to Richard Leverington who volunteered to be our Auctioneer for the evening. The amount of promises, generosity and enthusiasm was quite overwhelming. It was certainly a night to remember and one we have been asked to repeat. Keep those pens poised to make a note in your diaries for an announcement later in the year.

Thank you to everyone for collecting the promotional tokens throughout the year. We have been fortunate enough to order some books from Nestle and new software from the Tesco’s Computers for Schools promotion. The Sainsbury’s Vouchers have now ceased, so thank you for your efforts.

All the help and dedication from our Committee Members has been greatly appreciated. Special thanks go to our retiring Committee Members who have worked hard to support Pre-School during their terms of office. We are looking for new members to join the Committee, so if you would like to join us or find out more, please contact Janet Wood Pre-School Manager on 01283 239209 or contact Mandy Hutson (Chairperson) on 01283 814061.

We said goodbye and ‘Bon Voyage’ to Mrs Fritchley who left the Pre-School and England for a new life in Australia. Lynn was a key member of the Pre-School Team for over three years and more recently helped to set up our new ‘In-Betweenies’ Toddler Session. She will be greatly missed.

If you would like to register your child or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239209.

Rolleston Toddlers

Back in May we said goodbye to Jane and Pat, our Tuesday Toddler Session Organisers. After 20 years hard work and dedication, they have decided it’s time for a rest, and we all wish them well in their retirement.

The Toddler Sessions continued to be busy following Jane and Pat’s retirement, and thanks go to Louise Arnold and Tasha Ingram for running the Tuesday session during the last term.

A more permanent arrangement is envisaged for September. If you know of anyone who would like to help run this session, supported by the committee mums, then please speak to Louise on 815440 or Tasha on 520084.

The Thursday morning ‘In-Betweenies’ toddler group for children 2½ years continues to be very popular and there is now a waiting list. Anyone wishing to register their child should contact Mandy Hutson on 01283 814061.

All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the following sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Louise Arnold on 01283 815440.

Toddler Sessions Tuesday 10:00am – 11:30am, Thursday 1:30pm – 3:00pm.
In-Betweenies Thursday 10:00am – 11:30am.

Summer 2005 News

Rolleston Pre-School

Spring has certainly been in our step this year with our fund raising activities. The Chocolate Bingo held in March raised over £200 for our Pre-School funds and we bounced our way through May with a sponsored bounce to raise further funds. The children from the Pre-School and Toddler Groups had a great time decorating boats for the VE Day regatta and we hope you followed the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ and saw us on the Wizard of Oz decorated float at the village Carnival. Thanks go to all those who volunteered to help and take part in our events.

The heat is now on for our summer events. The arrangements for our “Auction of Promises” event are progressing well. This will take place on 25th June at the John of Rolleston School Alderbrook Site at 8pm, so make a note in your diaries. There will be a bar, buffet and a professional auctioneer. So far we have received a good response to our request for promises, which include a flight in a vintage aircraft, tickets to local attractions, weekend use of a BMW Z4, a hot air balloon flight, bouncy castle, beauty treatments, signed football shirt, health club membership, meals out. We still need more promises, large or small. Please pledge your promises and/or purchase your tickets (£3.00 each) from Karen Furzeman, telephone number: 813387.

The annual Community Day takes place on 11th June at the John of Rolleston School, Alderbrook Site and we will be supporting this community event. Please come along and visit us on our stand.

Once again the children of the Pre-School will be going to Ash End House Children’s Farm on 15th July for their Leavers Trip. There will also be a Pre-School Fun Day taking place on 21st July at the Rolleston Scout Headquarters, Station Road. We have organised lots of activities, including go-carts, bouncy castle, races, hook a duck, face painting, teddies and we hope to have a visit from a fire engine! Bring a picnic and join us.

As another Pre-School year comes to a close, good luck wishes are sent to all our new Pre-Schoolers who will be starting in September. We hope you settle in well, make lots of friends and enjoy all the new activities that await you.

If you would like to register your child or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239209.

Rolleston Toddlers

The Thursday morning ‘In-Betweenies’ toddler group for children 2½ years and over has been very popular, and there is now a waiting list.

The new Tuesday morning Toddler session has also proven to be very popular and we have had to turn some people away.

We now have lots of boxes full of craft materials to promote ‘free play’ creativity for the Toddlers. In addition, supervised sessions linked to the seasons and celebrations will take place throughout the year.

All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the following sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Louise Arnold on 01283 815440.

Spring 2005 News

Rolleston Pre-School

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome back after the Christmas break. Thank you to staff and volunteers who helped with the Christmas festivities, including the Nativity Play and the end of term Christmas Party.

Our first fund-raising event of the year will be the Annual Pancake Races which take place at The Croft at 2pm on 12th February. The Pre-School Committee will be providing the catering and funds raised will be donated to the Tsunami Appeal.

On 19th March we are holding our popular Chocolate Bingo at the John of Rolleston, Alderbrook Site, 2.00-4.00 p.m. with even more prizes and winners! Donations of chocolate and other prizes for our raffle are welcome.

We will be holding a new “Auction of Promises” event on 25th June. All we need are promises, large or small. You can promise your time or your expertise, such as a few hours help with gardening or the care of a pet while the owner is away or a special event such as a stay in a holiday cottage or theatre tickets. The venue for the auction is to be announced. There will be a bar, buffet and a professional auctioneer. This is an event not to be missed, so put the date in your diary.

Other events this year include the Carnival, with the Pre-School hoping to enter a decorated float and the Community Day with the Pre-School joining John of Rolleston Primary School to have a stall. Please join in to help make this event a success.

If you would like to register your child or have any queries regarding sessions, please contact Kim Owen at Pre-School on 01283 239209.

Rolleston Toddlers

The Toddlers Annual Christmas Party was held in the Scout building to accommodate the large number of children who enjoyed the party. Thanks go to all those who helped with food and decorations.

At the start of this new term, we began the new Thursday morning “In-Betweenies” session from 10am until 11:30am to cater for children 2½ years and over. The session is already successfully bridging the gap between Toddlers and Pre-School. The cost is £2.50 per session.

Due to the older children moving up into the In-Betweenies, we are reconsidering our craft activities for younger children. We plan to provide additional craft materials to promote ‘free play’ creativity, with supervised sessions linked to the seasons and celebrations throughout the year. A revised timetable is available.

The two sessions for younger toddlers continue to grow in popularity and we welcome the new children who have recently joined us. To accommodate those children and carers who prefer to join us for a morning session, the Tuesday session has now changed to 10am until 11:30am. The Thursday session remains unchanged from 1:30pm until 3pm. There is a charge, which includes refreshments, of £1.50 per child and 50p for each extra child.

All carers and toddlers are welcome to come along for a free session before registering. To register your child at any of the above sessions, including the In-Betweenies, contact Louise Arnold on 01283 815440.
