Winter 2003 News

The children who have started Pre-school and the playgroup in September have made a fantastic start. They are all busy making new friends, having fun, as well as learning lots too! Also starting in September were two new staff members Mrs Calder and Mrs Fritchley, a warm welcome to them both.

After a successful year’s fund raising, raising a wonderful total of around £2000, we have been able to purchase a new computer table and lots of new toys. Also new kitchen facilities are soon to be fitted at Pre school; we hope you have all noticed the fantastic new Pre-school sign too!

Many members of the committee retired in September as their children moved up to John of Rolleston Primary School, a big thank you to them and all the contributions they have made over the years. A special mention should be made of Helen Hunt who retired from her position as Pre-school Chairperson, your help and dedication has been greatly appreciated. Helen hasn’t gone far though as she is now our vice chair! We would like to welcome Mandy Hutson as our new Chairperson.

Please come along and support this year’s fund raising events, which include a Toy Sale at the end of November, Pre-school Nativity and the Pre-school and Toddlers Christmas parties. For those of you who have enjoyed our Chocolate Bingo in the past, we are planning to host this event early in 2004.

For further information about Rolleston Pre-school please come and look on our new notice board positioned outside Pre-school. Or why not visit our website.

Summer 2003 News

Since the last issue the Pre-school committee helped with catering at the annual Pancake races and managed to raise £86.65 for our Pre-school, so thanks to everyone who supported us on the day. Our Parent’s Evening was held on 1st April. A number of parents attended and were able to discuss their child’s progress and their progression to full-time school in September.

Easter was celebrated at our annual Easter service at the Chapel. The children always enjoy wearing their bonnets and entertaining us with their well rehearsed Easter songs. Thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed a cup of tea and a cake!

The winner of our very difficult New Year Quiz was Robert Woods. Through the sales of the Quiz we have raised a fantastic total of £118, so thanks go to Karen Furzeman who spent time compiling all of the questions.

Our 30 year anniversary T-Shirts are now on sale through Pre-school, just contact Pre-school if you would like to purchase one.

Prior to publication we will have had our Sponsored Bounce week, which usually manages to raise a really good amount for Pre-school and also for a Children’s charity. We will also have taken part in the Rolleston Carnival, an occasion which the children always like to participate in.

As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we have arranged a Treasure Hunt on Saturday 28th June.

There will be a staggered start commencing at 3pm from the Alderbrook site, John of Rolleston Primary School. First prize of £20 will be awarded to the winning team and following the hunt there will be a barbeque and refreshments available. For further details please contact Pre-school or a committee member.

We will be holding our usual leaver’s trip for children due to commence School in September on 8th July, when we will be visiting Ash End House Farm.

Finally, at the end of another school year we will have our Fun Day on the 18th July, giving the children an opportunity to have some well-earned fun and games.

We continue to hold our Parent and Toddler sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Chapel schoolroom from 1.30-3.00pm. We have plenty of spaces, so if you would like to meet other parents, come along for a coffee while the children play in a safe, friendly environment.
