Winter 2009 News

This is the time of year for giving: Harvest Festival has gone, but we are filling a box with non-perishable food for the Y.M.C.A. to supply to people unexpectedly made homeless or without resources, individuals are preparing shoe boxes of goodies for Operation Christmas Child which attempts to bring a little love and cheer to children abroad who have very little of either, and our special collection during Advent is for the work of Christian Aid. If you would like to take part in any of these, please contact a church member.

Rolleston Choral Society will present their usual concert of Christmas music and readings on Wednesday 16th. December at 7.30 pm.

Refreshments will be served after the concert. Come and enjoy the beginning of the festive season together. It helps with catering if we know in advance numbers likely to attend, so tickets will be available from members of the church or the Society, and from Starbucks priced £4 including the refreshments.

Details of Christmas services are not yet available, with the exception of a carol service to which Brownies are specially invited on 13th December. Otherwise, watch posters for details.

Autumn 2009 News

On 20th. September we will hold our Harvest Festival at 10,30 a.m. the service will be conducted by Mr. Alan Richardson and will be all-age worship at which we hope the Brownies may be present. Visitors always welcome.

The harvest produce will be distributed on the following day to people in the village who would specially appreciate being remembered at this occasion, through ill-health or other times of difficulty

Members of the congregation will be taking part in a concert at Tutbury village hall on 17th. October at 7'30 p.m. Rev. Mick Dilley, who was our minister until two years ago, will be bringing the Music Group from one of his new churches at Kirkby in Ashfield, and they will be joined by the Burton Churches' Choir and Drama Group in a varied programme.

There will be another concert in Stretton on 28th. November by the same choir and drama group. Watch for publicity of this.

Advance date for your diary: once again the Rolleston Choral Society will present a programme of carols and Christmas readings, to be followed by seasonal refreshments, at the Methodist church on Wednesday 16th. December

It will take place at the John of Rolleston Primary School during the mornings of the week 27th July - 31st July, with an evening session when parents will be welcome on Thursday 30th July. There will be games, crafts, quizzes, singing and stories, all with plenty of fun for the children. Many old friends will be present as helpers, and some new ones as well. It will cost £6 per week for the first child in the family, £1 for brothers and sisters. Please watch for publicity, and for information which it is hoped may be made available through the school.
