Rolleston Village Country Gala 2011
Monday 29 August, 12-5pm in Rolleston Club and on the Croft

After many months of planning and then some, the outcome was another blooming great day on August Bank Holiday Monday. Show areas ready to receive the abundance of exhibits, gazebo’s popping up at every strategic spot and the Gala Team and judges positioned to ensure everything was just so. 147 entries were processed in the frantic two hours before judging at 10.00 am. The judges carefully scrutinized, measured, cut, pressed, prodded, tasted and sipped 588 entries from 124 individuals before awarding the prizes. While judging was in progress, stall holders and rides were quietly erecting their equipment for the fun in the afternoon. At noon the Gala was officially opened by the Mayor Patricia Ackroyd, show areas opened for general viewing and the village filled.

The evening presentations were carried out by our Vicar, Ian Whitehead, followed by the Grand Auction which is always a great laugh and once again, expertly presided over by Len Torr. The evening came to a close with the Grand Raffle with some fantastic prizes gathered by Sue Fraser. Any profit this year was earmarked to fund new curtains for the recently decorated Snooker rooms. I am delighted to report a profit of £1,400 was realized and way beyond our expectations. This paid for the curtains in full and allowed us to help the St Mary’s fabric fund with a donation of £150. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the day in particular, the Gala Team, Sponsors, Judges, Staffs County Council, Graham Jacks, exhibitors and everyone who took time out to come and see our Village Gala, I hope you all enjoyed the day and congratulations to all who won.
