Newsletter - Autumn 2008

The end of the school year is with us again and thanks to the support of parents, staff and friends alike, FOJORPS has had a fantastic year. Of course we can’t forget the children – after all it’s for them that FOJORPS is here – to raise funds so that the educational experience that is available to the children is the best that we can give them.

Once again, fund raising efforts have been super this year culminating the fantastic sum of £7,200 raised at this year’s Community Day event – that’s up £600 on last year. Our thanks go to everybody who contributed to making the day such a success; whether you offered an hour’s support on a stall, baked a cake, painted somebody’s face or just came to support on the day. We even managed to book reasonably good weather for the day- let’s hope we can manage again next year for which plans are already in hand to make Community Day 2009 even more successful!

As always, we try to run a combination of old favourites and new events, and there are both new and old being planned over the forthcoming months. The children always look forward to their disco’s held in the first half term after the summer break. In the last couple of years, we have invited the new reception children in to the disco early so that they have a chance to see what it’s all about before being invaded by the old hands – if you can call Year 1 and Year 2 old hands! For the grown ups, we have the old faithful Fun Quiz – it usually attracts a good turn out with between 12 and 20 teams vying for the prize of Quiz Mastery. Christmas will be upon us before we can blink and our Christmas Bazaar is planned for a Friday after school in December. If we are very lucky, we might even find that Santa pops in to see whether any boys and girls have been good enough to deserve Christmas presents. We are also planning a new event this Autumn. During November, we are trying to run a Murder Mystery evening – not much detail yet, but Rolleston on Dove will be shaken to the core by a murder! Come along and pit your wits as a super sleuth!

Further details of all these events will be available on posters dotted around the village closer to the event dates – watch out for the unmistakable FOJORPS logo in windows, on the school website and on the school newsletter.

Saturday 11th October 2008 - Children’s Disco’s
Saturday 18th October 2008 - Quiz

Newsletter - Spring 2008

Christmas is now well behind us for another year, but just time to reflect on the Christmas Bazaar, held on a cold Friday afternoon early in December. Once again, it was a hugely successful event with a steady stream of visitors to Santa’s Grotto from start to finish. Let’s hope that the secret wishes of all those children came true for them on Christmas morning when their sacks were opened. Taking pride of place in the school library area was our offering for the villages ‘Angels for Advent’ event held in the Church at the start of advent. The toy & cake stalls, the school Christmas choir were all appreciated by those who braved the cold and came to support.

As we have done for a couple of years now, we ran a family Beetle Drive on Saturday 26th January. We now have a core of well practiced players who have been for the last couple of years, so the Beetle Drive seems to be developing into one of those FOJORPS regulars – a bit like the Quiz (April 12th) and the Children’s Discos (February 23rd.) It felt like an Abel family stitch up on the night with both the adult and children’s titles being snapped up by Richard and Matthew respectively – well done – an incentive for the rest to try a bit harder next time! A big thanks has to go to Etwall Take Away who supplied the Fish & Chip supper for about 60 people.

With the success of the events that have been organised by FOJORPS, we have a significant sum of money that has accrued over the months for us to be able to give to the school. Mr Bateman and his team are eager to get their hands on the money, looking to spend it wisely to benefit all the children – play equipment, sensory garden and IT equipment are all on the list of things being considered.

Dates for your diary……….

+ Saturday 23rd February Children’s Discos

+ Saturday 7th Jun Community Day ’08
