Rolleston 3rd Annual Charity Transport Festival & Grand Garage Sale Tour 2011
Monday 30 May 2011, 10.00am - 5.00pm, Croft, Burnside & Village

The rain didn't stop the crowds turning out to see the classic vehicles including: cars, motor cycles, lorries, tractors, buses, and much more. There were also garage sales to visit around the village. Festival proceeds this year will support Rolleston United Foundation (village educational charity), St Giles Hospice, St Mary’s Church, Methodist Church and Rolleston Pre-School.

For those seeking shelter the two free (donations) buses touring the village were a real treat. A slideshow of photos taken on one tour can be seen here.

Rollestonian Article (Autumn 2011) - John Morris

The rain lashed down in the morning as the stalwart helpers were setting up for the Festival. I can't thank too much the people who came to help, most of whom had to go home to change out of sodden clothes at about 10 o'clock.

The number of vehicles was down on previous years but thanks must go to those owners who brought out their precious cars and lorries. Probably the star of the show this year was the steam roller and living vans on Burnside. A number of people turned out to see her off in the sunshine on the following morning. It was a wonderful sight to see the train, consisting of the steamroller, two living vans and a water bowser as it trundled up Anslow Lane, with the steamroller blowing her whistle.

The rain was enough to put off any visitors coming to the Transport Festival, but it slackened off in the afternoon and the people of Rolleston turned out to show their support in spite of the rain. The buses were yet again really popular and not just with the children.

Obviously takings were down on previous years but we more than covered our costs and have donated £200 each to a number of village charities. These are St Mary's Fabric Fund, Rolleston Methodist Chapel, Rolleston Pre-School, Rolleston United Foundation and St Giles Hospice. St Giles Hospice is not strictly a village charity but they have cared for many village residents over the years and we are pleased to support them. Ideas for charities to be supported in the future are very welcome.
