Autumn 2011 Newsletter

The cricket season is now about three quarters gone, and by the time you read this it will probably be almost over for another year. So far the weather has been very good to us, with only a couple of matches called off, and none at Rolleston where the new drainage work has certainly improved things.

Our first team has is struggling and needs a couple of good results to climb out of the Division 1 relegation zone. They did, however, reach the final of the Breweries Cup but despite a very creditable performance, were defeated by a strong Ticknall side

Once again our second team has proved a bit of an enigma – with some really good performances followed by some quite disastrous ones as regards batting, but they should finish well up in Division 5S.

Our third and fourth teams are both having a good season and look to be finishing in the top half of their respective divisions. Both teams have once again given many younger players the opportunity to play in senior cricket with guidance from experienced senior players in the team. Many of them are looking really good prospects for the future of the Club.

Congratulations must go to our U-13’s who under the guidance of Nick Cheatle won their Division in the Burton & District Youth League and our U-11 hard ball squad who with the help of Scott Cobley finished runners-up in their division, and could so easily have won it, if as expected, they had won their last match.

Our other junior teams have had a mixed season, and we are always looking to attract young cricketers ( boys and girls ) of all ages to join us. If you, or anyone you know, are interested in joining us please contact the Club.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in running the Club, team captains, junior coaches, tea ladies and in particular Dave Woodburn and John Hodson for preparing the grounds at Rolleston and Marchington every week - it is a somewhat daunting task these days with so many matches now being played at both grounds.

Remember - you do not have to be a player to join Rolleston Cricket Club – we do have social membership available.
