John of Rolleston Community Day
Saturday 12 June 2004

This year's Community Day was another great success for the Friends of John of Rolleston Primary School (FOJORPS). The school field was filled with attractions, including two bouncy castles, a roller coaster, a ducking stool, an adventure cave, craft and toy stalls, a marquee containing displays by local organisations, a fire engine and a barbecue. There were other displays and craft demonstrations in classrooms.

The large crowds were entertained by the Tutbury Band, Pinxton Puppets, and a football competition, all announced by the Rector of Rolleston, Rev. Ian Whitehead. The event ended with a pillow fight on a greasy pole between Ian Whitehead and local builder Jeremy Marshall. This "needle match" was won by Ian with two falls to one. FOJORPS Chairman, Caroline Mills, would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day a tremendous success.

The picture (courtesy of Arnold Burston) shows Ian Whitehead (left) and Jeremy Marshall slugging it out on the greasy pole.
