Newsletter - Winter 2010

There will be two chances this year for people to come to our highly popular evening of Christmas carols, music and readings. The first will be on Wednesday 15 December, at St Mary's Parish Church. This will be a fund-raiser for the NSPCC. The second will be the following week, on Wednesday 22 December, at the Methodist Chapel . Both concerts will feature a wide range of well-known pieces and plenty of opportunity to join in. We will also include extracts from the Christmas Cantata by Geoffrey Bush. Start time for both evenings: 7.30 pm. Look out for details nearer the time. Tickets will be available from Starbucks News in due course, and on the door. We hope to see you there.

Newsletter - Autumn 2010

We are now busy rehearsing for our next concert, which will feature two of the best known choral works from the French repertoire. Fauré's Requiem was composed in around 1888, but didn't achieve general popularity until after the Second World War. With its rich harmonies and "big tunes", it's now a firm favourite. We are coupling this with the Requiem by his compatriot Maurice Duruflé, which was composed 60 years later but has many echoes of the earlier work's lyrical feel.

The concert will take place at St Peter's Church, Stapenhill, at 7.30 pm on Saturday 16th October. Tickets, price £8, will be available nearer the time from Starbucks News. More details nearer the time.

Newsletter - Summer 2010

We have a different kind of event in June, when anyone is invited to "Come and Sing" Gabriel Faure's Requiem. This is a beautiful piece of music, full of wonderful melodies, and is a firm favourite with performers and audiences alike. This is taking place on Saturday 19th June, at St Laurence's Church, Walton-on-Trent. Registration is at 3.00 pm, with the rehearsal starting at 3.30. After a break for tea and coffee, we'll reap the fruits of our labours in a performance at 7.00 pm - followed by cheese and wine. The cost for the day will be £10, and music will be provided. Proceeds to church funds. More details from our chairman, Linda Chidley, on 01283 546671.

An advance date for your diaries: Saturday 16th October. Two well-known Requiems that evening, by Fauré and Duruflé. This concert will take place at St Peter's Church, Stapenhill, at 7.30 pm. More details nearer the time.

Newsletter - Spring 2010

We've been delighted to welcome back our regular conductor Simon Lesley and we are busy rehearsing for our next concert. This will have the title "Sing On High", and will be based around the theme of Pentecost. A varied programme will include six movements from Haydn's Creation, Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei, and the concerto for flute and harp by Mozart, with Adam Chidley as flute soloist. It will also feature the world premiere of a new work by Simon himself, The Day of Pentecost. And much more besides. Make a note of the date: Saturday 15th May. Venue, along with ticket prices, to be announced nearer the time.
